Directions to listing
A sandy cover near Gunwalloe and adjacent Church Cove, which has a dog ban in the summer. The beach is famous as the scene of filming for the most recent BBC Poldark series and gets its name from the silver dollars which wash up on the shore from time to time. These are from the wreck of the San Antonio, wrecked off nearby Loe Bar in the 16th century, most of the treasure from the wreck has been salvaged and is at the Shipwreck Museum in Charlestown near St Austell.
The beach is rocky in places, but covered in soft sand making it ideal for families and dogs. In the summer there is an ice cream van along the lane which serves Church Cove and Dollar Cove and there is a National Trust car park. Poldhu Cove is a short walk along the coast path to the south. The beach here has a summer dog ban, but it is open all year and the lovely cafe is dog friendly. The cafe also opens late in the summer after the 7pm time when dogs are allowed on the beach.
